An artic mural narrated as a children's story.
We had a local artist paint an artic mural called 'Wonder". It gives a little glimpse of the artic wildlife.
The children looked down in wonder through the circling colorful aurora.
"Look, Marianne", said Pete. "I see a polar bear."
"It's a mother bear", answered Marianne. "See the baby cub."
"I do! I do!", babbled little Alex.
It sure looks funny, sitting like a little kid" answered Pete.
"It was even smaller when it was born", informed Marianne. "Polar bears are born in the middle of winter, when the mother is still hibernating. I think the mother just gave the cub a fish to eat."
"Where does it live now?" asked little Alex.
"During the winter, the mother digs a snow cave" answered Marianne. "Otherwise they live in the open. Their heavy fir becomes their home."
"Look at the walrus riding on the ice", pointed out Pete.
"That is not a walrus", corrected Marianne. "A walrus would have two tusks coming down from the mouth. That's a seal".
"What's a seal?" asked little Alex.
"A seal is almost like a dog that went back to live in the water," answered Marianne. "They eat fish, squid and clams."
"Will it eat the shark that is swimming in the water?" asked Pete.
"That's not a shark. That is an orca", answered Marianne.
"Orca?" asked little Alex.
"Yes, an orca is a killer whale, and is related to dolphins", answered Marianne. "They grow 20 to 30 feet long, and will eat the seal, if it catches it in the water."
